SMARTWIRE GATEWAY FOR MODBUS

Moeller has launched a gateway for Modbus Remote Terminal Unit (RTU), expanding its range of locally available fieldbus couplers for SmartWire, Moeller's flat-cable connection system that connects motor starters directly to the controller.

SmartWire eliminates wiring errors and drastically reduces the wiring requirements for contactors, motor starters and remote I/Os, including terminals and connectors.

SmartWire gateways for Profibus-DP and CANopen/easyNet are already in South Africa.

The new Modbus gateway offers a perfect solution for a wide range of small-scale or large scale machine and system building applications, and rounds off Moeller's gateway series in terms of both design and functionality.

Using the new product, it becomes possible to connect up to 16 contactors, motor starter combinations or SmartWire I/O modules to the Modbus RTU fieldbus.

A maximum of 124 Profibus gateways can be connected as slaves per PLC master, or 126 CANopen gateways when using CANopen.

All the benefits of the SmartWire system are retained without restriction, including error free and fast control wiring, simple system configuration and the reduction of input and output channels in the PLC.

The gateway facilitates simple, transparent and reliable management of SmartWire data, as well as the operation of the SmartWire system itself.

Data from SmartWire slaves is provided both in compressed and expanded data width of up to 8 bytes per slave to allow more efficient data transfer and optimum adaptation to the performance of the PLC.

The fieldbus interface of the gateway allows point-to-point communication via RS232, and also the integration of the SmartWire system in an existing Modbus network via RS485.

Moeller's Modbus gateway (SWIRE-GW-MB) supports data rates of 9.6 Kbit/s, 19.2 Kbit/s, 38.4 Kbit/s and 57.6 Kbit/s, and can be connected to virtually any freely configurable serial interface.
