NEW FEATURES FOR MOELLER CIRCUIT-BREAKERS

Moeller has announced the addition of four new product features to its NZM series of circuit breakers.

They are: a remote operator for the NZM2; new connector technology for the NZM1; a residual current protection module for NZM2 welding applications; and new insulating surrounds for models across the range.

The NZM2-XRD remote operator allows distance-operated standard network or load switching of NZM2 circuit-breakers up to 300A.

On-switching, off-switching and resetting is executed by means of a permanent or pulse contact using a manual control circuit device or automated control commands.
Maximum on/off switch time is 170 milliseconds, making the device suitable for all standard applications for automated or remotely operated energy control.

Device width is the same as the NZM circuit-breaker, so that no additional mounting space is needed. A three-position selector switch allows the three operating positions (automatic, manual and interlocked) to be distinguished clearly. There is a padlocking feature for additional protection.

Second of Moeller's new NZM features is special connector technology for the NZM1, designed to accommodate a requirement for plug connections where devices need to be exchanged quickly during system expansion or repair.

The new plug connection allows a maximum rated current of 125A, and features a narrow design requiring no additional space for engineering.

An automatic, IP20-compliant trip ensures current interruption during switch exchange, delivering a high level of finger safety even when the circuit-breaker is removed. Provision is made for the use of padlocks to prevent any undesired plugging-in of the circuit-breaker.

Moeller's third new addition is a residual current protection module for NZM2 welding applications, developed in response to the extensive use of the NZM2 as a main switch in welding applications, especially in automotive plants.

The new protection module is separated from mains and auxiliary voltages, and trips as soon as the definable rated current is exceeded. The summation principle makes the module sensitive to all pulsating d.c. and a.c. fault currents in the range from 0 to 10000 kHz, making it suitable for 3-pole equipment with power electronics such as converters and frequency inverters.

Standards-compliant (IEC 364-4-41/ VDE 0100 Part 410) integrated short-time delay ensures protection against nuisance tripping due to momentary, pulsating residual and discharge currents.

The last of Moeller's newly announced features is a narrower insulating surround for NZM circuit-breakers fitted with toggle levers, allowing side-by-side mounting without the need to space the breakers.

Mounting in a rectangular cut-out with a material thickness of 1 to 3 mm is completed simply and quickly by turning the locking catch.

The variable fastening allows a mounting tolerance of up to 4 mm and guarantees protection to IP40. Label plates for customised inscription are available for identifying the circuit-breaker clearly from the outside.

All four of these new features are now available in South Africa, where the NZM family of circuit breakers is extensively used because of the ability to cover a power range from 15 to 1600 amps with just four devices.

In South Africa, Moeller is a division of CBI-electric Industrial Controls.
