The newcomers extend the line of contactors launched earlier this year from 15kW up to 75kW, and deliver a number of benefits by combining reduced dimensions with an extremely low sealing power of 0,5W. Smaller overall dimensions save valuable control panel space, with electronically supported drives resulting in a mounting width of just 55mm on xStart contactors up to 65A. This is identical to that of the AC counterpart, whereas DC contactors up to 65A have until now normally been of a deeper construction than AC contactors. The mechanical interlock usually used with Moeller's reversing starter combinations also requires no additional space, comprising as it does a plastic sphere that is inserted in the specially designed recesses on the sides of the contactors where it can reliably prevent simultaneous switching. Lateral clearance between contactors is not required, and they can be mounted and wired directly next to each other. The result is that a series machine manufacturer using different control voltages no longer needs to check the cabinet layout, because the DC contactors can be positioned on the mounting rail or mounting plate just like the AC versions. Further, the low sealing power overcomes to a large extent the limitations imposed by heat dissipation on the packing density of the panel. Mechanically possible solutions previously rendered unfeasible because of the high temperatures involved, can now be considered because of the 0,5W sealing power of the new xStart contactors.
